Established in 1998, Gaetjens Langley is a specialist wine industry advisory firm. We work exclusively with wine businesses across Australia and New Zealand with clients in all major wine producing regions. We also maintain strong links with producers and advisors in the USA, Europe, South America and South Africa. Our services include:

  • The sale and acquisition of wineries, vineyards and wine businesses.
  • Leasing of wine industry assets.
  • Strategic business advice, including restructuring, succession and divestment planning.

Our clients range from the global leaders including Constellation Brands, Foster’s Group and McGuigan Simeon Wines Ltd to private family owned businesses. Our focus is on commercial transactions ranging in value from $2 million to $100 million.

Colin Gaetjens is Australia’s pre-eminent wine industry valuer and has worked actively in the industry for over 30 years. An avid collector of the great wines of world as well as part owner of a winery in Heathcote, Victoria, Colin’s wine industry knowledge is unsurpassed.

Business activities have covered a wide range of commercial experience encompassing real estate and general chattels, valuations, plant and machinery auctions and valuations, insolvency auctions and valuations for major accounting firms, regular commercial wine auctions (pioneered and conducted continuously from 1974) and other associated activities.

Expertise has been developed in

  • valuing winery assets including property, plant & equipment, stock and brand names.
  • valuing existing vineyards ;
  • valuing new vineyard development proposals
  • acting as a negotiator for the purchase or sale of vineyards and winery assets ;
  • wine valuations and auctions.

Colin started the business with Philip Shaw in 1998. Colin is also a Director of Gaetjens Pickett Valuers, Australia’s only specialist valuers of wine industry assets.

Toby Langley, Director

Toby has been involved in the wine industry since 1994 when he worked as a Management Consultant with international accounting and consulting firm Ernst & Young.

In 1998 Toby joined Southcorp Wines (now part of Foster’s Group) where he was financial controller of a $145 million capital project to double the red wine capacity of Southcorp Wines and establish 900 hectares of vineyards. Following Southcorp’s merger with Rosemount in 2001, Toby managed the divestment of a number of wineries and vineyards.

Toby joined Colin Gaetjens & Shaw in 2002, as an Associate Director and was made a Director in 2004.

Over the past five years Toby has managed the divestment of some of Australia’s largest winery and vineyard transactions.

Toby has expertise in:

  • negotiating the purchase, sale and leasing of wine businesses;
  • investment and divestment planning;
  • strategic business planning;

Horace Bila, Director

Horace over the past 20 years has specialised in business sales, business valuations and associated advisory services. Horace has hands on practical experience and has negotiated the sale of over 400 businesses. He also happens to have a passion for the sale of wineries and vineyards.

Prior to joining Gaetjens Langley he acted as a principal of his own business which apart from transactional work also undertook a diverse range of work including valuations and expert reports for litigation support purposes.

Horace has hard earned experience in the business sales process and the facilitation of complex transactions. He has earned an enduring reputation for achieving positive results for clients.

Maryann Horton, Business Analyst.

Maryann Horton

Maryann joined Gaetjens Langley in March 2006. Over the past 20 years, Maryann has gained a high level of office administration experience in a variety of industries including, mining, banking & finance, real estate and IT.

Using this experience Maryann has become an integral part of the Gaetjens Langley team, not only providing full support to all Directors but ensuring that the day to day management of the office is of a high standard.

After establishing the business with Colin Gaetjens in 1998, Philip Shaw retired in December 2006.
