Established in 1998, Gaetjens Langley is a specialist wine industry advisory firm. We work exclusively with wine businesses across Australia and New Zealand with clients in all major wine producing regions. We also maintain strong links with producers and advisors in the USA, Europe, South America and South Africa. Our services include:

Colin Gaetjens

Colin Gaetjens is Australia's pre-eminent wine industry valuer and has worked actively in the industry for over 30 years. An avid collector of the great wines of world as well as part owner of a winery in Heathcote, Victoria, Colin’s wine industry knowledge is unsurpassed.

Business activities have covered a wide range of commercial experience encompassing real estate and general chattels, valuations, plant and machinery auctions and valuations, insolvency auctions and valuations for major accounting firms, regular commercial wine auctions (pioneered and conducted continuously from 1974) and other associated activities.

Expertise has been developed in

  • valuing winery assets including property, plant & equipment, stock and brand names;
  • valuing existing vineyards;
  • valuing new vineyard development proposals;
  • acting as a negotiator for the purchase or sale of vineyards and winery assets;
  • wine valuations and auctions.

Colin started the business with Philip Shaw in 1998. Colin is also a Director of Gaetjens Pickett Valuers, Australia’s only specialist valuers of wine industry assets.


Toby Langley

Toby has been involved in the wine industry since 1994 when he worked as a Management Consultant with international accounting and consulting firm Ernst & Young. In 1998, Toby joined Southcorp Wines (now part of Foster’s Group) where he was financial controller of a $145 million capital project to double the red wine capacity of Southcorp Wines and establish 900 hectares of vineyards. Following Southcorp’s merger with Rosemount in 2001, Toby managed the divestment of a number of wineries and vineyards. Toby joined Colin Gaetjens & Shaw in 2002, as an Associate Director and was made a Director in 2004.

Over the past five years Toby has managed the divestment of some of Australia’s largest winery and vineyard transactions.

Toby has expertise in:

  • negotiating the purchase, sale and leasing of wine businesses;
  • investment and divestment planning;
  • strategic business planning.

Mike Calneggia




Mike has been actively involved in the wine industry for over 25 years, principally in Western Australia.  In 1992, he established Selwyn Wines, a highly successful contract processing and wine trading business.

When Evans & Tate acquired Selwyn, Mike accepted an executive role with the company and was a key participant in its transformation from a private to a publicly listed company in 1999.  Mike held the position of Evans & Tate Company Director from 1997 to 2001 and Director of Winemaking Operations from 1999 to 2001.

In 2001, Mike resigned from Evans & Tate and, after a brief sabbatical, was appointed Chief Executive of ASX listed company Australian Wine Holdings Limited (ASX:AWL) with investments in the Australian wine industry. Mike held this position between 2002 and 2007.

In addition to advising Gaetjens Langley’s Western Australian clients, Mike is a shareholder and Director of Viticultural Asset Management Pty Ltd, a provider of management and strategic planning and consulting services to the Australian wine industry.

Other interests include shareholder and Director of Wine Shack Pty Ltd, a specialist wine producer, trader, distributor and on-line retailer.

Mike resides in Perth, is an experienced helicopter and aircraft pilot and has personal interests in several Margaret River vineyards.

Roland Yap

Roland Yap has diverse international business and trade experience. In 1992, he was a senior manager in one of the leading international trading companies in Southen China. In 2000, he joined a New York listed public company Australian office, focusing on East-Asian business development. In 2004, he started a wine business with one of Australia's largest wineries. He is currently focusing on Australian wine promotion and sales in Mainland China, Hongkong and Macau.

Roland has solid experience in sales and international trading with a strong capability to communicate with clients from different languages, backgrounds and cultures. He has successfully advised clients on selecting Australian wines for the Chinese market and on operations management.
